Free advice on how to reduce waste and save up to £1,000 a year on food bills is being offered to community groups in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.

Waste experts at the award-winning Biffa BDR plant at Manvers, which deals with non-recyclable household waste from 345,000 homes in the area, are offering to work with local groups to discuss how we can, with a few simple steps, reduce waste in areas such as textiles, electricals and food.

The BDR Manvers facility handles up to 250,000 tonnes of waste a year. Instead of being sent to landfill, over 97% of the waste is processed to extract useful resources, make a fuel product or generate electricity.

Abi Reid, Biffa’s Community Education Liaison Officer at Manvers, said:

We are keen to work with local community groups to help deliver our message that a few, simple changes to the way we think about waste, can have a big impact.

Any group, big or small, interested in finding out more can get in touch to arrange a visit from our team to one of their meetings. We offer free talks on everything from how to save money by reducing food waste to how to make clothes last longer.

We have successfully delivered talks out in the community in the past and from the feedback we received know how useful people have found them.

The talks last around 90 minutes and include the following topics:

  • Love Food Hate Waste
Discover how the average family could save up to £83 a month (nearly £1,000 a year!) by cutting down on food waste. Learn easy tips for keeping good food out of the bin.
