School visits

Our education team offer waste and recycling education sessions free of charge to all schools across Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham. These teach the basic principles of the 3Rs (reduce, re-use and recycle) and can be adapted to any age group.

Please contact our education team to discuss your session.

The 3Rs

This session is classroom based and consists of a presentation all about the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) followed by an interactive recycling sorting activity. This activity is adapted to the Council area your school is in. Please allow 1 hour for this session.

It’s a Rubbish Adventure!

It’s a Rubbish Adventure! is a fun interactive workshop which helps explain modern waste management in a fast-paced and engaging way. We primarily aim the workshop at Key Stage 2 pupils, however we have adapted this session for key stage 3 and above in the past. The workshop uses scientific techniques and concepts such as:

  • Sieving
  • Air movement
  • Magnets

The workshop takes place in our visitors’ centre at the BDR Waste Treatment Facility in Manvers.

We limit the workshops to 30 pupils at a time due to space restrictions. The workshop runs for 90 minutes. The workshops run for 90 minutes. Please allow adequate journey time to arrive 15 minutes before your workshop start time.
All bookings will be provisional until you return your school booking agreement.

Wherever possible we will tailor the workshop to suit your requirements. However, this may not always be possible as we are an operational site. Please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements by emailing us at the address above.
