Giveaway bundles up for grabs to help you cut out single-use plastics!

While many household items like plastic milk and fizzy drinks bottles can be recycled, plastic straws, sandwich bags and cling film are designed to be thrown away after use.

It is estimated that UK households throw away a staggering 90 billion pieces of plastic packaging a year, or 1.7 billion pieces a week.

With many celebrating Plastic Free July, now is a great time to consider making some simple swaps for reusable products.

To help residents reduce unnecessary waste by making more sustainable choices about the products they use, the partnership is giving away a different bundle of goodies for each week of July. The themes of the different bundles are:

• In the kitchen
• For the kids
• Out and about
• Beauty and hygiene

Abi Reid, Community Education Liaison Officer at Manvers, said:

“We are committed to helping people across Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham to reduce their waste wherever possible. Plastic waste can be a real issue for many of us and is something we all produce more of than we realise.”

“These giveaways are packed with reusable items designed to cut single use plastics in our lives that we hope will encourage not just the lucky winner but everyone to think about simple swaps we can each make to reduce our single use plastic.”

“During July, we’d like to challenge everyone to pick one single use plastic item in their life and swap it out. Whether that’s ditching clingfilm for a lunchbox or cutting out disposable wipes, small changes can make a big impact.”

The Biffa BDR facility deals with non-recyclable household waste from 345,000 homes across Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. The facility can handle up to 250,000 tonnes of waste a year, with over 97% of materials processed and diverted away from landfill.
