See how your waste is transformed: New tour dates released at Manvers facility

Residents in Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham have the chance to find out for themselves what happens to the non-recyclable waste in their bins.

The award-winning BDR Biffa waste treatment plant at Manvers is offering guided tours of the site to show how waste from local households is processed to extract useful resources.

Rather than being sent to landfill, more than 97% of the waste received at the facility is processed using advanced treatment methods to extract overlooked recyclables and generate heat, electricity and a fuel product used in electricity generation.

Tours of the BDR Biffa Waste Treatment Facility run regularly throughout the year with places allocated on a first come, first served basis. Each visit lasts approximately two hours and includes a presentation about the facility, safety briefing, and a guided tour of the facility.

Abi Reid, Community Education Liaison Officer at BDR, said: “It’s always great to welcome visitors onto our site and show them the journey their leftover waste takes. Many are surprised by just how much black bag waste can be recycled and recovered, and how little actually goes to landfill.”

Upcoming tour dates are as follows:
