Love Your Clothes

Over 300,000 tonnes of clothes go to waste every year in the UK. This is having a huge impact on the planet as lots of resources such as energy, materials and water go into making clothing - in fact to make one pair of jeans, it requires 1,800 litres of water! Currently, over 5% of the UK’s total annual carbon and water footprints result from clothing consumption. If clothes stayed in active use for nine months longer (extending their average life to around three years) this would reduce their carbon, water and waste footprints by 20-30%.

About the campaign

This campaign is about promoting reduction in clothing waste and extending the life of our garments by thinking before we buy, encouraging second hand and charity shop purchases, caring for and repairing the clothes we already have, and donating the clothes we no longer need to charity, friends or family.
